With the introduction of the new Sunny, Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO of Nissan Motor India , said that Nissan’s next product for India would be a vehicle that would compete with the Innova. The vehicle is indeed the NV200 – the LCV that was spotted testing a zillion times by the Indian automotive blogosphere. However, Nissan is said to have worked on the interiors and aesthetics of the NV200 to make it more MPV than LCV for the Indian market.

The Nissan NV200 is expected to be powered by the HR15DE engine – which is the same 1.5-litre dCi engine that powers the diesel versions of the Nissan Micra, Nissan Sunny, Renault Pulse and the Mahindra Verito. The NV200 is designed to seat seven people in comfort and will boast of a feature list that will be strong enough to rival the Toyota Innova. In fact, the NV200 is such a good MPV that it even got chosen in the United States as New York's taxi of the future.

We expect the pricing of the NV200 to be between Rs 8 to 12 lakh. It will be interesting to see how the NV200 fairs against the mammoth market presence of the Toyota Innova – especially with its facelift version coming to the Auto Expo too!
